California Flight School

The Private Pilot Certificate permits holders to fly a wide variety of aircraft and to carry passengers (not for hire) virtually anywhere. Regulations allow you to share the flight expenses with your passengers (equal shares) to help pay for trips.

On your vacation, you can rent aircraft in other states or foreign countries to explore new areas.
Many countries in Europe for example have flying clubs where you can rent US registered aircraft.

Private pilots are restricted from flying in non-visual conditions (low clouds, fog, and other "bad" weather). To be able to fly in weather other than clear and good visibilites (VFR), you advance to the IFR (instrument flight rules) intstrument rating in a separate course.

Who is the typical California Flight School student pilot?

Requirements:

A basic medical certificate and read and speak the English language adequately. You need to be at least 16 years old to obtain a student pilot certificate, although you may start training earlier. You must be 17 years of age to be certified as a Private Pilot. Applicants need to meet standards in three separate areas to qualify for FAA pilot certificates: Flight experience (measured in hours), Flight skill (measured by a FAA examiner with the help of a booklet called the PTS (practical test standards), and theoretical understanding which is measured via a written (computer test) multiple choice exam and an oral exam before and during your flight test.

Flight Experience: An applicant for the Private Pilot certificate must have a minimum of 40 hours flight time: A minimum of 20 hours dual and a minimum of 10 hours solo. However, it is normal for most students to require more time, and Private Pilot training nationally averages over 70 hours. The California Flight School Private Pilot syllabus is specially designed to help the student achieve the training goals in 50 to 60 hours--30 to 40 hours dual and 10 solo.

Flight Skill: The skills required for the Private Pilot Certificate can be grouped into three areas:

1.Solo flight

2.Cross-country navigation and night flight

3. Pilot-in-Command experience

In each area, California Flight School aims to deliver training well above the minimum standards established by the FAA.

Theory & "Knowledge Tests":
We utilize the most modern teaching techniques used in aviation today. Our student website includes logbook and account information, important downloads, assignments and an online classroom. California Flight School only employs seasoned and highly experienced, academy trained flight instructors. You will benefit from this not only during your flight instruction, but also during your academic instruction for your theoretical/oral tests. At California Flight School, seasoned professionals will teach each individual what is required for a flying career, not only for a knowledge test.

Aircraft:

Our aircraft are maintained to very strict standards and equipped with the most modern avionics you will find anywhere. We are proud of the airplanes we fly, and we would be very happy to show them to you.

Program completion times and cost depend on factors such as talent and enthusiasm, as well as study habits.

COM: Commercial Pilot Certificate
Ready to go to work?
A commercial pilot certificate is required to be able to fly for compensation. Flight Instructors, Banner-Tow, Agricultural Spraying and traffic watch are examples of commercial flying activity.
MEL: Multiengine Rating
Twin engine add on
To be able to fly aircraft with more than one engine, you need to add a multiengine rating to your existing pilot certificate.
