What Private Pilot Training Includes

The Private Pilot training program utilizes late model Cessna aircraft and high tech FAA certified flight simulators. We use computer based training tools, online video tutorials and online classes to supplement your studying. The training course includes all FAA mandated requirements for private pilot certification including night training and cross-country flights.

What kind of training aircraft are used in the Private Pilot Course?

- We fly primarly Cessna aircraft. They range from the very economical 2 seat Cessna 150/152 to the 4 seat 180hp late model Cessna 172R/S. All these aircraft come with modern state of the art avionics.

How are your flight instructors?

Our flight instructors are highly experienced and certified by the FAA. They are dedicated to providing personalized instruction to help you achieve your goals safely and efficiently. Some of the instructors have airline and corporate jet charter experience.

How is the Private Pilot training scheduled?

We use our very own proprietary scheduling system to ensure that your flight training is organized efficiently. This allows us to accommodate your availability and optimize your learning experience. You can choose from part time or full time training options. Weekdays or weekends, your choice.

Starting Flight Training

You can start to learn to fly with us anytime. Flight training is paid as you go, there is no need for advance payments. Once you have established a set schedule we will help you make a plan to complete the training efficiently.

Books and Equipment

Our online video training package is $299 including the online ground school and online test prep software. Misc. equipment, manuals and charts about another $150. We recommend getting this kit right away and start preparing for your lessons.

TSA Authorization

In case you are not a US citizen, the US government agency TSA requires additional processing. Please let us know if this applies and we can help you with this.

Training Times

Any time during daylight hours, any day, weekends, holidays. We are very flexible and you can arrange a schedule to suit your requirements. If you consider accelerating your training schedule to several times per week or even every day, you need to accelerate your study effort accordingly.

How old do I need to be to start?

We have many students start with some introductory lessons before they are even 15 years old. To start actual flight training, you must be at least 15/16 years old since solo flight is restricted to age 16. However, most students begin their training around 17 or 18 years old. Keep in mind that you must be at least 17 years old to obtain a private pilot certificate.

Do I need previous experience to begin?

No previous experience is required to begin your flight training. Our program is designed to accommodate beginners and guide you through each step of the learning process. You will receive comprehensive instruction and support from our experienced flight instructors.

How many hours does private pilot training take?

The legal FAA minimum for a Private Pilot Certificate is 40 flight hours, which includes at least 20 hours of flight training from an instructor and 10 hours of solo flight. Keep in mind that this regulation was written for pilots transitioning from helicopters or balloons to fixed wing. If you are starting out with no previous experience, you will likely need around 60-70 hours of flight time to be fully prepared for the checkride.

How much does a private pilot license cost?

The cost of a private pilot license can vary depending on several factors, including the aircraft rental and instructor fees, and the number of flight hours required to reach proficiency. With FAA minimums (prior pilot certifications in other categories) it's possible to complete the training with $9000, however for a complete beginner on average, you can expect to spend between $15,000 and $18,000 to obtain a private pilot certificate.

Medical Exam

You will want to go for a first class medical exam to make sure there are no obstacles in the way. The FAA publishes a list of approved aviation medical examiners. You won't need this certification right away but it is wise to get this done early in the training.

Final Flight Test

The final FAA flight test fee is currently $1000, paid directly to your friendly FAA examiner. Your flight instructor will prepare you for this exam which consists of a ground (oral) and flight portion.
